Vintage Brighton Wedding / Katrina & Alistair

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Katrina and Alistair are good friends of mine and I was honoured to be the photographer at their Vintage inspired wedding at Brighton’s Pub du Vin. When I arrived at their house, Katrina already looked gorgeous having been made up by Alison Smith and was keeping her nerves in check by doing chores and getting ready with her two sisters. It was going to be an emotional day as sadly Katrina’s lovely Mum had been ill and passed away last year. Before she died she had planted a rose bush in Katrina’s front garden which hadn’t yet bloomed. A couple of days before the wedding, a delicate rose budded and blossomed despite the November frost. The girls knew it was their Mum’s way of being at the wedding so they added it to Katrina’s lovely bouquet of hand-tied roses and herbs from the amazing Miss Mole’s Flower Emporium. It fitted in perfectly and Katrina kept calm by looking at her flowers as she walked by herself down the aisle. I absolutely loved the wedding dress from the amazing Joanne Fleming and the whole day was just so perfect. There were a few tears but really it was a happy and fun celebration of the love between a couple who started as friends and ended up as a family.

Brighton Wedding Photographer / Marnie & Bevan

These are Marnie’s thoughts on her Brighton Beach Wedding and the story of that beautiful vintage wedding dress.

“I can honestly say that our wedding day was the best day in my life. We wanted a joyful, intimate, classy day for us and our 50 guests…and that’s exactly what we got. So many of the guests at our wedding have said to us that it was the loveliest wedding they’ve ever attended, which is wonderful to know. And I’m also really pleased that we decided to ask guests to donate to Oxfam, rather than buy gifts that we didn’t need….people were really generous.

For my wedding dress I definitely knew that I didn’t want anything new and meringue-like. That’s really not me at all. Having said that, I didn’t have a definite style in mind…I just wanted to find something that I fell in love with. I searched high and low for several months in specialist vintage clothing shops in London, but nothing had that “je ne sais quoi” and I was beginning to panic somewhat as we now had only had 8 weeks to go before the wedding. When I did eventually find the dress, it was virtually on my own doorstep, at Andrew Fionda’s vintage bride shop in Kemptown in Brighton. As soon as I saw it, I knew it was the one. It took my breath away…and because it was vintage, I knew it was a one-off and totally unique. Just like my husband in fact…a one-off, totally unique and with all the je ne sais quoi I could wish for!”

Other special aspects for me included:
The little white Morris Minor that we hired for our wedding car
Having our wedding photos taken on Brighton beach
Having our little dog Woody at our wedding ceremony – and a model of him with us on our wedding cake!
Showing the pop video my girlfriends & I shot as part of my hen party
Due South, the gorgeous little restaurant on Brighton beach that we hired for our reception
The wonderful registrars and the beautiful wedding room at Brighton town hall
