On Saturday evening, Amy and I photographed a gala dinner at the Royal Pavilion for a group of cross-dressers and their wives. The Pavilion was built by the Prince Regent as a party house by the sea but this must have been one of the most unusual parties in its salacious history. The dress code was strictly Regency or Victorian and the standard was incredible. The whole of the Pavilion gardens stopped to watch the ladies arrive before they took their guided tour of the building. We set up some studio lights in the magnificent Music Room and took formal portraits of all the guests in their finery. The red drawing room was set up for the dinner with some great fake candles and gorgeous flowers all supplied by our friends Pollen. It was very elegant, very fun and very Regency. I’m pretty sure the Prince was somewhere in the building having a great time!

Brighton Photography / Event at The Royal Pavilion
Monday, April 19th, 2010Weddings Brighton / Matthew and Andrew’s Civil Partnership at the Pavilion
Wednesday, January 28th, 2009There is a definite increase in last minute bookings but Matthew and Andrew are one of the latest bookings we have taken as they only decided that they wanted a photographer a couple of weeks before the wedding. They realised that the Pavilion is such a stunning venue and they wanted to make sure they had some good photographs from their day. We have been challenged by most of our December weddings due to the lack of light and as this ceremony was at 5pm, it was already pitch black when coverage began at the Pavilion. The guys seemed very nervous but the lovely Mr Love was their registrar and he created a calm and warm atmosphere for the ceremony.
All the guests enjoyed an exclusive tour of the Pavilion as it was now closed while we took portraits of Matthew and Andrew in the fabulous Music Room. They were keen to have a laid back party so there were not any formal line ups. We tried to make sure that we had reportage shots of most of the people and some groups of their friends and family. Clare and I left as the caterers, Due South were putting out an amazing carvery that smelled delicious. We finished by taking an outside night shot of the Pavilion which looked very dramatic.
Brighton Wedding/ Weddings at The Royal Pavilion
Wednesday, December 31st, 2008We were very excited to see some of the new literature for weddings at the Royal Pavilion. For 2009 they are using photography from weddings that we have done, including our very own Clare with her husband Gary on the posters and flyers which will be distributed in Brighton. When we do the wedding fair on the 22nd of February there will even be a life-size image of Clare in the entrance, I think she will be wearing a disguise that day! They are also using images from Rachel and James’ wedding and Lisa and Lisa’s civil partnership at the Pavilion in the summer. It is a big honour to have been chosen and we are looking forward to being the photographers at more weddings in the opulent surroundings of Brighton Pavilion in 2009.
Brighton Wedding / Jackie & Sarah’s Civil Partnership at the Pavilion and Drakes
Monday, November 10th, 2008Jackie and Sarah didn’t want to see each other until the ceremony so when we got to Drakes to start their wedding photography, Julie covered Jackie getting ready while I was in with Sarah. Their outfits had been made by Renaissance in Brighton so as they matched without the girls knowing exactly what the other was wearing. Both featured dramatic high collars and sparkly details that looked very glamorous as did the hair and make-up.
With the unexpected sunshine it was quite a fun journey to the Pavilion with all the guests on a vintage open top bus. After the ceremony we photographed the girls in the grounds, taking advantage of the scaffolding being removed to do some shots with the whole building in the background. I think the last time I was able to do that was about seven years ago! Back at Drakes, we couldn’t resist the delicious canapes but then persuaded Jackie and Sarah to go over to the beach for some photos with the winter sun setting behind the Palace Pier.
