Brighton Wedding/ Becky & Jon

Friday, June 11th, 2010

This was a truly laid back affair. Becky and Jon just wanted to be married and have a lovely meal. They even needed some convincing to have some pictures taken on their own! Becky looked simply stunning in her David Fieldman dress despite not intending to wear a wedding gown. They didn’t want a big fuss, so only invited close friends and family to Brighton Town Hall. The ceremony was simple but lovely with their beautiful children having starring roles. After saying their vows and having the first kiss Becky and Jon had a proper hug, which was enough to set me and Amy off. Becky didn’t want intrusive photography but we got some lovely shots of the family walking through the lanes. Then we met up with them again on Hove seafront for some beach shots before heading to the Ginger Pig for the reception. The restaurant looked fabulous and we sneaked a few of the rather delicious canapés including fresh oysters. Pamela from the Ginger Pig treated us to a glass of champagne before we left but it was a very lovely way to spend the day.

Brighton Wedding / Sarah & Andrew

Sunday, May 30th, 2010

Sarah readily admits that she ‘Has a thing for Gingers!’ Not only is the groom a redhead, but so were each of the four bridesmaids. Their colouring looked gorgeous against the soft blue fabric of their dresses. Since they first met just over a year ago, the couple has kept every cork from the bottles of champagne that they have drunk and this set the theme for the wedding day. They used the corks for place names and named the tables after brands of champagne, with the kids sitting on the Babycham table! The ceremony was in the very beautiful St Mary de Haura which is just around the corner from their flat. Despite a mix up with the wedding cars causing a delay to the proceedings, it was a very lovely service with an amazing rendition of Ave Maria by bridesmaid Kay. We had just enough time to make the most of the sunshine and go to the beach for some photos before the reception at the Royal York in Brighton.

Engagement Shoot Sussex / Sarah & Andrew

Tuesday, May 4th, 2010

One of Sarah and Andrew’s first dates was on the Pier in Andrew’s home town, Worthing. We rearranged this engagement shoot 3 times as we all wanted lovely early evening light to shoot into. Sarah loves all things vintage and a bit shabby, which really sums up the Worthing seafront. The wedding is later this month at a gorgeous old church near their flat and then the Royal York in Brighton. It has a champagne theme featuring corks that the couple have been saving ever since they first met, can’t wait!

Surrey Wedding Photography / Shamini & Senthooran

Tuesday, April 6th, 2010

This was certainly a first for me! On Saturday, I covered a wedding in Surrey but the Bride and Groom had no idea that I was their wedding photographer. Shamini and Senthooran planned a very simple ceremony at Leatherhead Registry office with just a couple of guests but Shamini’s brother surprised them with a photographer, a cake from Patisserie Valerie and several more guests. Shamini was very sweet when I arrived and only after I had been taking pictures of her for a while did she ask me who I was. I do love the red of a wedding Sari and the bride kept her accessories simple. However a last minute intervention from the sister-in-law saw her petite bouquet get the same treatment as the weddings plans and it was made grander. The couple seemed very happy with their day that really came together thanks to their very lovely families.

Rock N Roll Bride without a Bride!!!

Saturday, March 27th, 2010

We are literally popping open the bubbly this afternoon in the office. We have been LOVING the uber fabulous Rock n Roll Bride who was named as the most influential person in the wedding industry. So after recently getting in touch, we have started an association with her very inspirational blog and today Matt & Leon’s dramatic Brighton Civil Partnership is featured on there. It looks fantastic and has fulfilled my ambition for this year, which was to get on there. The photographers and images that appear on her site are among the best in the world and now little old Devlin Photos has got its foot in the door. Feel like I have won an Oscar! Have a look and leave your comments at www.rocknrollbride.com

Civil Partnership Brighton / Matt & Leon Stanmer House

Friday, March 19th, 2010

Leon and Matt chose to get married on the anniversary of when they met and they certainly made it a memorable day for all of those involved. Clare started the wedding photography at their house where Matt was getting ready with four bridesmaids and three flowergirls, while I went to MyHotel in Brighton to cover Leon with four more bridesmaids, another flowergirl and the ring bearer, Dylan. They all squeezed into a stretch Hummer for the short journey out to Stanmer House for the candlelit ceremony, conducted by the lovely Mr Love. It was one of the most beautiful ceremonies I have seen, thanks to some gorgeous singing and the emotional vows that Matt and Leon made. New girl Amy even shed a little tear, so she will need to toughen up! After photos and drinks in the grounds, it was time for everyone to leave Stanmer for the party at MyHotel and the boys know how to make an exit. They had arranged for a helicopter to land on the lawn and whisk them away. There was a dramatic colour theme of black and red which looked fantastic on all those bridesmaids and we had a lot of fun doing the wedding photography. We made use of the penthouse suite for some portraits which had to be worked around the 300 year old carousel horse that is in the middle of the room.

The suits and accessories were from classic Brighton tailor Hugo Morris. The choccywoccydoodah cake was about four foot high and completely over the top. It was quite a manic Monday but really great fun.

Brighton photographer / The Photo Book

Thursday, March 11th, 2010

As well as the high end but very beautiful, Queensberry albums that we offer, this year for both wedding and portrait photography, we have introduced the Photo Book. This is a 12 x 12 inch hardback book produced with archival lustre finish photographic paper pages that give brilliant colours and super sharp quality. It has a full wrap-around laminate cover which can be printed with an image of your choice on a range of colours. The book also offers complete lay-flat binding, showing off double-pages to best results. They can hold up to 200 images which is great for a wedding and we do a smaller version that has been popular for family portraits. It has taken us quite a long time to source a product that was affordable but still looks exceptional. The prices range from £250-£500.

Wedding Photography new products

Thursday, January 14th, 2010

We are very busy in the office and very excited about our ten year anniversary. The website is being updated soon by Richard at Brightonweb and we have had some help from Leif at Kendall Copywriting. I now have a rough idea how google works and what meta data is, though don’t test me on it!vintageshoes

Perhaps the most revolutionary change is our switch to digital photography for weddings. Much as I love working on film, our new Canon 5D mkIIs are everything we need in a camera and we have really seen their magic in our last few winter weddings. We can now be even more flexible on what we can offer clients and the products we can offer. Queensberry are still our main albums and the duo pages with photofronts have been most popular but we have always been looking for a more cost effective album that looks robust and stylish. There are a few coffee table book companies around but I have always found the printing or binding to be poor, especially when sat next to a Queensberry album. At last though, we have sourced a great 12 inch square photo book that sits flat, has a hard backed photo cover and the pages are made up of photographic paper. The first wedding sample should be here next week and it will also showcase our other big new service which is Vintage Wedding Photography. For this option, the images are printed with a slight warm tone on the black & white and a retro effect on the colour. The results are gorgeous and worth all the hard work we have been putting in over the winter. Well done Amy on getting this gorgeous shot of Maddie’s shoes in the snow, it is going to feature in the site redesign too :) www.devlinphotos.co.uk

Brighton Wedding / Liz and Chris’s New Year’s Eve wedding at Pangdean Barn

Wednesday, January 13th, 2010

IMG_9199Liz and Chris finally got married on New Year’s Eve after a few changes to previous plans thanks to the arrival of their beautiful baby son Wilbur. We joined Liz at her friend’s fabulous mews house in Hove where she was getting ready. Everything was going well until we spotted a clamp going on one of the wedding cars, which luckily could be removed after payment of a hefty fine. Liz looked gorgeous in a gown from Ian Stuart that she bought from the Ozone in Brighton. Although we left quite late, we managed to grab a couple of shots in the cobbled street before rushing to Ditchling Church. After abandoning our car in a muddy lane, Amy and I ran uphill and got there just before the bride walked in but it was one of the closest near misses for me as a wedding photographer! The ceremony included a baptism for Wilbur who must be the most chilled out baby ever. He smiled all day and didn’t even mind the water on his head.
The reception was held at the very lovely Pangdean Barn, IMG_9422just outside Brighton which is a great Sussex winter venue. It felt very festive and cosy and the food was amazing. Nicky and her staff are very warm and relaxed which helps to create a friendly atmosphere. We used our lights to do all the formal photography by the huge Christmas tree, finishing with five month old Wilbur posing with his many Godparents! After the speeches, the couple cut their stunning wedding cake which had been made by the Groom’s very talented Dad. www.devlinphotos.co.uk

Brighton Wedding / Joanne & Mark’s Wedding at Pub du Vin, Brighton

Monday, September 21st, 2009

14180030Joanne started her wedding day by getting ready in the glamorous surroundings of the Hotel du Vin in Brighton. It was good to see Claire Wallace again doing the hair and make-up. The suite was very busy with bridesmaids and the gorgeous little flowergirl all running around so we took Joanne’s shoes and flowers to the hotel courtyard for photos. This was our first time doing wedding photography at the their venue, the Pub du Vin and it looks great in there. The ballroom is bright and quirky with a massive chandelier made from crystal wine glasses. After the ceremony at Brighton Town Hall, we walked with the wedding guests to the pub and picked up some champagne. We then took Joanne and Mark to the beach with their bridesmaids and the best man for some fun photos on the carousel. 13990008As usual when the sun shines in Brighton, the beach was very busy but we used the doughnut statue by the Pier for some shade. We also went back to the beach for some night shots of the carousel which was still lit and looked amazing. I think the pub is going to be very busy with weddings, especially as it also has the civil license. With the fireplaces it is going to make a fantastic winter venue too.
