Vintage, Rock n Roll London Wedding / Leslie & Ben

Wednesday, December 1st, 2010

I am so in love with shooting London weddings and it was such a joy to be involved in Leslie and Ben’s cool vintage/rock n roll inspired day. I had a lot of fun at Leslie’s hotel in the morning shooting the getting ready – gorgeous Joanne Fleming frock and Laboutins, heaven! There was a bit of a panic on so I got to fulfill my inner bridesmaid (never been one never gonna be at this rate) In between shots I got to help the bride get beautiful. New girl Jayne did her magic with the groom and we all met again at Marylebone Old Town Hall for the very lovely ceremony. We shot their portraits in the streets around there, you can’t beat a London Mews and we even came across a great vintage Jaguar to ‘borrow’ for some shots. The reception was in an old rowing club by the river, very vintage but the atmosphere was pure Rock n Roll. After the delicious meal, everyone totally rocked out to the awesome band and the bride changed into some converse. I have heard that it all ended in a big moshpit.

Vintage Brighton Wedding / Katrina & Alistair

Tuesday, November 23rd, 2010

Katrina and Alistair are good friends of mine and I was honoured to be the photographer at their Vintage inspired wedding at Brighton’s Pub du Vin. When I arrived at their house, Katrina already looked gorgeous having been made up by Alison Smith and was keeping her nerves in check by doing chores and getting ready with her two sisters. It was going to be an emotional day as sadly Katrina’s lovely Mum had been ill and passed away last year. Before she died she had planted a rose bush in Katrina’s front garden which hadn’t yet bloomed. A couple of days before the wedding, a delicate rose budded and blossomed despite the November frost. The girls knew it was their Mum’s way of being at the wedding so they added it to Katrina’s lovely bouquet of hand-tied roses and herbs from the amazing Miss Mole’s Flower Emporium. It fitted in perfectly and Katrina kept calm by looking at her flowers as she walked by herself down the aisle. I absolutely loved the wedding dress from the amazing Joanne Fleming and the whole day was just so perfect. There were a few tears but really it was a happy and fun celebration of the love between a couple who started as friends and ended up as a family.

Quirky Vintage Wedding in Sussex / Lucy & Stephen

Wednesday, November 10th, 2010

Lucy and Stephen live in the Middle East and know quite a lot about hotels as Stephen works for probably the most luxurious hotel in the world. When they get a break and want to get away from it all, they travel to Rye in Sussex and the very chic but cosy George Hotel. In planning their wedding, it was the natural choice and it is a great venue for a quirky vintage inspired wedding. I loved all Lucy’s ideas from the rosette place names to the vintage crockery and there were bowls of sweets everywhere. When we came out from the ceremony in Rye Town Hall, Mr & Mrs Gee bunting had been hung across the entrance as well as colourful weather balloons. My kind of props so of course we took them off when we went to do their photography around the gorgeous ancient streets of Rye. It was cold and there was some rain but the crisp winter light and the reflections of the cobbles gave the images a romantic feel. Considering the height of her heels and that her beautiful wedding dress had a train on it, Lucy was a very happy to walk around quite a few locations and I found it all incredibly inspirational. While the guests were having dinner, Amy and I set up the Photo Booth (pics to follow), which was perfect for this fun wedding.

Vintage London Wedding / Sophie & Barney

Tuesday, October 26th, 2010

I almost don’t want to write anything, I love these images so so much. Sophie and Barney found me through the gorgeous Rock n Roll Bride site and this was certainly a London Rock n Roll Wedding. After checking out Sophie’s website and then meeting them both, I pitched the idea to incorporate some quirky animal masks that I have had waiting for just the right wedding. Amy went to their very cool flat to cover the boys while I had a wicked time with Sophie and her six bridesmaids who all wore vintage pieces altered by Sophie. The vintage 1930s silk wedding dress originated from the Victoria and Albert museum via My Sugarland and was altered by the Queen’s seamstress. Though we were running a little late, the very kind registrar at Islington Town Hall let me take a quick shot of Sophie walking up those steps on her own to show off the amazing train. After the ceremony, we walked through the vintage and antique shops of Camden Passage down to their venue which was an old metal works in a cobbled street. Such a privilege to be involved in a wedding day like this and I hope the images do justice to it. Before you ask, the “Till Death Do Us Part” cake is from Choccywoccydoodah.

Chic Brighton Wedding / Lucy & Joaquin

Wednesday, October 13th, 2010

On a beautiful warm autumnal day, Amy and I started coverage at the couple’s house where Lucy was getting ready. Their house is amazing and very photogenic so we had some fun playing around with the dress and shoes. Lucy helped to design her pretty delicate dress from White Leaf in Brighton and we loved her jewelery. The wedding was at the very chic Hotel du Vin in Brighton with great readings from Lucy’s sons and her chief bridesmaid and daughter, Zoë. Joaquin was a very hands on groom and was doing the table settings as we were photographing the room. Meantime, the guests were treated to wine tasting sessions from the hotel’s sommelier and after dinner there was a fun Mr & Mrs quiz hosted by their sons. Before we left, we had a taste of the yummy Croque en Bouche cake from the Real Patisserie.

Romantic Sussex Wedding / Sally & Rob

Monday, October 11th, 2010

Sally and Rob chose Horsted Place in Sussex for their wedding venue. This beautiful country estate oozes old fashioned charm and vintage elegance which suited this couple very well. When Clare and I arrived, Sally was busy checking the tables before finishing her getting ready in one of the suites. At this point the rain was pretty heavy but Sally’s Mum was pretty sure that this meant good luck for a wedding day! The Caroline Castigliano gown looked amazing on the hanger but even more sensational on Sally and we loved the deep navy blue that the bridesmaids wore. Luckily that rain eased off and we were able to go out into the grounds for some photography. The little bit of rain that we did get, just added to the romantic look of this day. This bride and groom may be two of the best looking people on the planet but they are also very, very lovely and it was great to be involved in their wedding.

Funky Sussex Wedding / Shirley & Stuart

Wednesday, September 29th, 2010

This was such a fun wedding, it is hard to find an image where the bride and groom are not giggling or beaming with happiness. Amy and I started coverage at Drakes Hotel in Brighton where Shirley was sipping champagne and getting ready. As seems the norm for us, we did a slight rearranging of the furniture so there was a good shot of the dress hanging up. Shirley’s shoes were phenomenal so after a bit of thought, we put them in the bath and I love this shot. I don’t think I have ever seen such blue flowers at a wedding but thought her bouquet was very funky. The vintage Bentley soon picked the bride up for her short journey over to Lewes for the ceremony at Anne of Cleves house. We planned to do some photography by the beach huts and the great advantage of the weather being a bit naff was that nobody else was around. Their lovely chauffeur drove the car onto the promenade for these dramatic shots. Again lots of laughing, they must have had face ache the next day! A vintage double-decker bus took all the guests back to Brighton for the reception at the very fabulous Ginger Pig in Hove. The food was of course amazing so feeling inspired by ingredients we had a chat with the very talented chef who donated a couple of figs for the rings shot.

Vintage Sussex Wedding / Flo & Jon

Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010

This simply beautiful vintage inspired wedding in the glorious Sussex countryside was just about perfect. Flo left her parental home out of the front door that she had gone out for her first day at school and went to their local church for her marriage to Jon. She took everyone’s breath away in the dress that she helped to design. Their very lovely friends lent them their barn for the reception where we were all treated to roasted local lamb followed by a cream tea on vintage crockery. There was some quirky touches for the new Mr and Mrs Pepper including chillies as place names and cans of Dr Pepper tied to their car. My kind of day. I love the light at this time of year, there is a warmth to it as Autumn begins its magical transformation. Even though we had already done the official photography, Flo and Jon were very kind to go out into the gardens after the meal as the sun was setting. In the evening a orchestra played for the Tea Dance and the couple took to the floor just as the last rays of light were hitting the barn. These are my favourite first dance pictures ever, so romantic.

Vintage Quirky Italian Wedding / Lindsey & Adriano

Monday, September 13th, 2010

Apologies for the epic proportion of this post but I just adored everything about this wedding that Amy and I shot last Friday. The couple, Lindsey and Adriano are beyond cool. They are quite possibly two of the most beautiful people on the planet, she is a delicate English beauty and an amazing make-up artist and he is a sultry Italian who writes songs and is in the disco, rock band Raygun. (I might be a little bit in love with them both!) Their quirky, eclectic, vintage Italian wedding was held at the very lovely Farbridge Barn in Sussex. I knew I was going to love everything when I first saw Lindsey’s vintage wedding dress which she sourced from the States. It was handmade in the fifties from lace with beautiful details and a teeny waist. Her fabulous shoes were straight out of Alice in Wonderland and she wore her Grandma’s lace gloves. Lindsey collected everything for the wedding, including retro tins, antique books, little feather birds and kitsch salt & pepper animals. Following the rather yummy meal, the fantastic caterers, Jacaranda brought out a vintage Ice-Cream stand so everyone could put together their own sundaes. The evening entertainment was provided by the very glamorous Shellac Sisters who played retro music on gramophones and taught us all a few moves. I want to do it all again but for now, I just can’t stop looking at these images of a truly beautiful vintage wedding day.

Pretty Sussex Vintage Wedding / Naomi & Christian

Thursday, September 9th, 2010

Last Friday, a glorious day, was Naomi and Christian’s wedding day at the stunning Sussex venue of Buxted Park. The fabulous photographer Anna-Marie Stepney covered the boys getting ready, while I went to the bride’s room to cover Naomi getting ready with her lovely bridesmaids. When I saw her beautiful Pronovias lace gown, I thought it would look amazing with some light behind it rather than just hanging on the back of a door. The windows in the Elizabeth Browning suite are about 12ft high but the ever helpful Marc provided a very tall stepladder and even hung it for us. Naomi is a natural beauty and looked amazing considering she hadn’t managed to sleep the night before. For their portraits, we went back to the car park walls, which I am loving right now but also to a gorgeous country lane for a softer backdrop. The whole event was beautifully styled by Jennifer Sue Weddings with a vintage tea party theme and there were lots of gorgeous little touches everywhere. The flowers were by the very talented Nicola at Florian who hadn’t been at Buxted since her own wedding that I shot back in March.
