So we have been trying to think of ways of using all these lovely engagement images. My wonderful clients Olivia and Mark who are getting married in the Cotswolds in a few weeks mentioned that they were thinking of getting postcards for guests to sign instead of a book as they have a big passion for travel. Lovely, vintagey looking postcards, I LOVE that idea, so this is what we have come up with. Each design needs a minimum of 10 copies but I think they will be a gorgeous keepsake, wrapped up in some lovely ribbon. Get in touch if you want to know more about these for your Vintage Wedding.

Vintage Wedding Album by Queensberry

So what to put all this gorgeous Vintage Wedding Photography in? I was looking for an album that had the Vintage feel but could match the craftmanship of my Queensberry albums. After much research and contacting other album makers, I still hadn’t found ‘The One.’ I was chatting to the very lovely Jo Newman from Queensberry who suggested looking at their Vanilla Bean cover material which is the one that Amy and I both loved from the newest swatch book anyway. It is very soft and tactile but looks weathered so tick for the Vintage cover. Jo then reminded me of the Barcelona album that the mighty Johannes Van Kan had shown at his talk back in September that had completely blown me away. This album is relatively small but chunky and lots of the images are tiny so it has a precious feel to it. Another Vintage tick. So I merrily went about designing a new sample in Photojunction, using images from Nicola and Daniel’s beautiful Sussex country house wedding. I wanted to add their names or the date to the cover but embossing doesn’t work with this material. My great friend Katharine is in the process of setting up a company offering Vintage inspired stationary for weddings so I asked her and her partner Debs to design a label for the Vintage Queensberry. Being the creative types that they are, they have come up with a gorgeous range which can be personalised for each wedding and the ribbon will be sourced to match. I showed it to some sets of clients on Saturday and one of them spent a while subconsciously hugging it, which has never happened before! So here it is, would love to know your thoughts.

Vintage Wedding Album

I know the sun is shining and little daffodils are bobbing in the breeze but today I am working on Maddie and Nick’s gorgeous winter wedding. They were lucky to have chosen a perfect day where the snow was sparkling on the ground but the sky was blue and the light was beautiful. They have chosen around 170 images to go in a Photobook and have opted for the Vintage finish. Maddie’s look on the day was classic vintage bridal and their stunning venue of Ashdown Park Hotel in Sussex looked like a perfect winter wonderland. I loved the flowers by Pollen as the berries gave them a winter feel but very luscious looking. One tip, if you are planning your winter wedding – don’t get married any later than 2pm. Maddie and Nick called me as they were thinking of a 4pm ceremony with candles, imagine if we had missed all this lovely light for the photography!

Brighton photographer / The Photo Book

As well as the high end but very beautiful, Queensberry albums that we offer, this year for both wedding and portrait photography, we have introduced the Photo Book. This is a 12 x 12 inch hardback book produced with archival lustre finish photographic paper pages that give brilliant colours and super sharp quality. It has a full wrap-around laminate cover which can be printed with an image of your choice on a range of colours. The book also offers complete lay-flat binding, showing off double-pages to best results. They can hold up to 200 images which is great for a wedding and we do a smaller version that has been popular for family portraits. It has taken us quite a long time to source a product that was affordable but still looks exceptional. The prices range from £250-£500.

Vintage Wedding Sussex/ new photography service launching soon

Here is a preview of some images from our Vintage Wedding Photography portfolio which will be going onto the redesigned site soon. Clients will be able to have this option on their images for either a Queensberry album or The PhotoBook. We love the vintage influence in wedding styling and wedding dresses and wanted to reflect this trend in our wedding photography. So the colour images have a slightly faded over-saturated look with creamy skin tones, whereas the black and white photos have a slightly retro warm tone. So if you are planning to have vintage tea sets, vintage candelabras, a revamped vintage dress or jewellery, retro bunting or an English garden party style wedding, then you will love this style of photography.

Wedding Photography new products

We are very busy in the office and very excited about our ten year anniversary. The website is being updated soon by Richard at Brightonweb and we have had some help from Leif at Kendall Copywriting. I now have a rough idea how google works and what meta data is, though don’t test me on it!

Perhaps the most revolutionary change is our switch to digital photography for weddings. Much as I love working on film, our new Canon 5D mkIIs are everything we need in a camera and we have really seen their magic in our last few winter weddings. We can now be even more flexible on what we can offer clients and the products we can offer. Queensberry are still our main albums and the duo pages with photofronts have been most popular but we have always been looking for a more cost effective album that looks robust and stylish. There are a few coffee table book companies around but I have always found the printing or binding to be poor, especially when sat next to a Queensberry album. At last though, we have sourced a great 12 inch square photo book that sits flat, has a hard backed photo cover and the pages are made up of photographic paper. The first wedding sample should be here next week and it will also showcase our other big new service which is Vintage Wedding Photography. For this option, the images are printed with a slight warm tone on the black & white and a retro effect on the colour. The results are gorgeous and worth all the hard work we have been putting in over the winter. Brighton Family Portrait Photography

It has been a busy year for family portrait photography and we have sourced some lovely books to use to present the results. We are calling them Family Journals and aiming to record our lives now. A lot of my childhood memories form around photos and they record not just the people and the relationships but our environment and home life at that time. The car looks ancient and the colours of our house look crazy but that was my very favourite dress. The Family Journals are about recording what is significant to your family by spending time in your home and favourite place to have fun. That might be mixing up cakes or mud pies but for Bea it was crunching through autumn leaves in her best outfit with her very favourite bear with Mummy and Daddy. www.devlinphotos.co.uk
